Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet were a famous filmmaking duo.

They worked together for many years. They made about two dozen films. Most of their work happened in Germany and Italy.

Their films were very unique. They did not just make up stories. Instead, they used other works as a base. They turned novels, plays, and operas into movies. They even used letters and political writings. One famous film used the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. They played the music live in front of the camera.

They had a very strict way of working. Every shot was planned with great care. They often used amateur actors. These actors spoke in their own local dialects. This helped the films feel very real.

Some people found their films hard to watch. Some felt the acting was too plain. Others did not understand their style. Still, many critics loved their work. In 2006, they won a special prize in Venice. The award was for their new way of making films. Their work still inspires many people today.
