Robert Bresson was a famous French filmmaker. He is known for a very simple style. Many people call this style minimalism. He did not want his movies to look like plays. To do this, he did not use professional actors. Instead, he used people he called "models."

Bresson asked his models to repeat scenes many times. He wanted to strip away all acting. He wanted the camera to catch real human depths. He also used very little music in his films. This helped the audience feel the story more deeply.

His life shaped his art. He was once a prisoner of war. This experience helped him make the film "A Man Escaped." His work often explored deep ideas about the soul. He was a Catholic man. He often used themes like grace and mercy.

Bresson made only 13 full-length films in his long career. He took a long time to make each one. Even so, his work changed cinema forever. He influenced many new filmmakers in France. Today, he is still seen as a great master of film.
