Steven Wright is a famous American comedian who makes people laugh in a very special way.

He is well known for his slow, calm voice and a style called deadpan. This means he tells jokes without showing much emotion on his face. His jokes often use one-liners or strange ideas that people do not expect. Some of his humor is called non sequiturs, which are ideas that do not follow what came before. People enjoy his unique way of looking at the world through funny, silly situations. Because of his talent, Rolling Stone ranked him as the 15th greatest comedian in 2017.

Making a comedy show involves much more than just telling jokes.

Wright writes his own material and often produces his own films or specials. For example, he wrote and starred in a short film called The Appointments of Dennis Jennings. He also worked as a producer for the show Louie between 2010 and 2015. Sometimes he even provides voices for characters in cartoons or movies. He has recorded comedy albums like I Have a Pony and I Still Have a Pony. These albums help him share his funny ideas with many people at once.

Wright's journey into comedy began many years ago in Massachusetts.

He was born in Cambridge in 1955 and grew up in Burlington. His father worked for NASA during the Apollo space program. Wright went to Middlesex Community College and then graduated from Emerson College in 1978. He started performing stand-up comedy in 1979 at the Comedy Connection in Boston. In 1982, a producer saw him at the Ding Ho comedy club. This club was a unique place that was half Chinese restaurant and half comedy club.

Throughout his long career, Wright has earned many important awards.

In 1989, he won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. He also received two Emmy Award nominations for his work on the show Louie. In 2008, he became the very first person to join the Boston Comedy Hall of Fame. His comedy special on HBO became one of the longest-running shows on that channel. He has also been named one of the top comedians by Comedy Central. These honors show how much people respect his skill and his funny ideas.

Many things in Wright's life connect to the art of being funny.

He was influenced by other famous comics like George Carlin and Woody Allen. Even when he is not on stage, he stays busy with other creative hobbies. He is a musician who has recorded songs with his friend Mark Wuerthner. He also enjoys the art of painting. Sometimes, people find jokes on the internet and claim he wrote them. Wright says he did not write all of those jokes, even if they are funny. He continues to be a creative person in many different ways.
