life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Tiny germs called staph bacteria live on many people. They often live on your skin or in your nose. Usually, these germs do not cause any harm. But they can enter your body through a cut. Even a tiny paper cut can let them in.

Once inside, the bacteria can cause many problems. They can make skin red, swollen, or painful. You might see a boil, which is a bump filled with pus. Some people get impetigo, which looks like a rash of blisters.

In some cases, the germs go deeper. They can reach the heart or bones. This can be very dangerous. Doctors often use antibiotics to fight the germs. Antibiotics are medicines that kill bacteria.
