You stand on a floating board. Then, you use a long paddle to move.

This sport has roots in Hawaii. In the 1900s, instructors used it to watch students. They also used the high view to take photos.

There are many ways to enjoy SUP. You can go racing or ride waves. Some people do yoga on calm water. Others use boards for fishing in shallow spots. You can even go on long trips. One person paddled for 59 days!

Boards come in many shapes. Wide boards help you stay steady. This is great for beginners. Narrow boards are better for fast moving. Some boards are inflatable. You can pack them in a bag.

A leash is also important. It ties the board to your ankle. This keeps the board from floating away if you fall. It is a great way to connect with nature.
