Computers need a way to show colors. They use a set of rules called sRGB.

This rule helps colors look the same on screens and printers. It is the main way colors work on the web.

In 1996, two companies made sRGB. They were HP and Microsoft. They wanted colors to match old computer monitors. These monitors used a special way to show brightness. This way is called gamma.

Most monitors do not show light in a straight line. If they did, dark colors might look strange. The sRGB rule uses a math path to fix this. It uses a straight line for very dark colors. Then it uses a curve for the rest. This helps the screen show more detail in dark areas.

An sRGB image uses three main colors. These are red, green, and blue.

By mixing them, the computer can make many other colors. This group of colors is called a gamut. The sRGB gamut is a triangle shape. Most colors we see fit inside this triangle. This makes sRGB a great tool for most people.
