He was often described as an "all-around entertainer." This title reflected his many roles in the media. He worked as a film director and a producer. He was also a comedian and a clever inventor. Pasanen owned his own production company named Filmituotanto Spede Pasanen Ky. His work reached many people through radio, television, and motion pictures.

His career began with a focus on radio comedy. In the late 1950s, he worked for Yleisradio. He applied for an entertainment provider position twice. His second application was nearly identical to his first. He included a note saying his folder was already there. This persistence led to his hiring. He brought a "screwball" comedy style to Finnish radio. This style was fast and clever. He was inspired by American comedians like Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, and Danny Kaye.

Pasanen's radio programs were unique and energetic. One of his most popular shows was Ruljanssiriihi. This program eventually became Hupiklubi. These shows were one hour long and aired on Saturday evenings. They combined music, sketches, and jokes. He also created the character G. Pula-Aho. This was a smart-talking parrot voiced by actor Leo Jokela. The parrot used Helsinki slang to insult Pasanen. These sketches were very popular with audiences. They were produced between 1960 and 1964.
