It sits at the bottom of Tasmania. Tasmania is a state in Australia. The cape is in the Southwest National Park. This park is part of a very large area. We call this the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Two big oceans meet at this spot. One is the Pacific Ocean. The other is the Indian Ocean. This cape is a special line between them.

South East Cape is the southernmost point of the main island. But it is not the most southern part of the state. Some islands sit further south. The Maatsuyker Islands are near the coast. The Pedra Branca islands are also nearby. Macquarie Island is much further away. It is 1,600 km to the southeast.

Many ships sail near this land. The waters can be rough. Many boats have hit the land or been wrecked there. Sailors use this cape to find their way. It is one of five capes in the south that sailors can go around.
