It includes our air and the space beyond. Astronomers call the sky the celestial sphere. This is an imaginary ball around Earth. It makes the Sun, Moon, and stars look like they drift on it. The sky is split into areas called constellations.

Why is the daytime sky blue? It happens because of Rayleigh scattering. This is when air molecules scatter sunlight. They scatter blue light more than red light. This makes the sky look blue to us.

At sunset, the light travels a longer path. This can make the sky look red or orange.

At night, the sky looks dark. We can see the Moon and planets. Some cities have light pollution. This is extra light from humans that makes the sky bright. This makes it hard to see stars.

People also watch the sky to predict weather. For example, thick clouds might mean rain is coming soon.
