geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Sirajganj is a large city in Bangladesh. It sits in the north-west part of the country. The city is on the right bank of the Jamuna River. This river is the main stream of the Brahmaputra. About 450,000 people live in the city. This makes it the 13th largest city in Bangladesh.

Long ago, Sirajganj was a very busy place. It was a main center for the jute trade. Jute is a plant used to make many things. People used river boats to move jute here. An earthquake in 1897 changed the river's path. This made the city less busy for a time.

Today, the city has many useful parts. There are two medical schools for students. There are also eight colleges. You can travel to the capital, Dhaka, by train. A big highway also runs near the city. People can visit many interesting places there. You might see the Jamuna Bridge or the Durjoy Bangla Statue. There are also many mosques and temples for people to visit.
