In Christianity, sin is an offense against God. Some believe in original sin. This is the idea that humans are born with a sinful nature. Christians also talk about seven deadly sins. These are pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth.

Other faiths have different views. In Islam, sin is breaking the commands of Allah. Judaism says sin is "missing the mark" of God's law. In Judaism, hurting other people is very serious.

Hinduism links sin to karma. This is a system of cause and effect. Bad deeds lead to negative karma. This can keep a person in the cycle of rebirth. Buddhism does not have a concept of sin against a god. Instead, actions bring natural results. Some acts in Buddhism are very severe. These include harming a Buddha or killing a parent.
