It is made by dissolving silver in nitric acid. Then, the liquid is evaporated to leave the salt behind. In the past, people called it lunar caustic. This is because old alchemists linked silver to the moon.

This salt can do many things. It is used to make film for cameras. It is also used to make stained glass look yellow or orange. Artists use it to make a mosaic effect in windows.

It can also make a dark stain on your skin. This stain is used to mark fingers after voting. This helps stop people from voting twice.

Doctors use silver nitrate in many ways. It can help stop nosebleeds. It can also be used to treat warts. It has antiseptic properties, which means it helps kill germs. However, it is still a strong substance. It can cause burns or skin irritation. If a person takes in too much silver, their skin might turn blue-gray. This condition is called argyria.
