He is known for using unusual materials. He often uses paper tubes made of cardboard.

These tubes are cheap and easy to find. This makes them great for helping people after disasters.

In 1995, a big earthquake hit Kobe, Japan. Ban built temporary homes for the people there. He used paper tubes for the walls. He used beer crates filled with sand for the base.

These homes were better than simple tents. He also built shelters in Rwanda. These helped save local trees.

Ban does not like waste. He wants his buildings to be good for the earth. Many of his structures can be recycled. For example, he built a pavilion in Germany.

After the show, the paper was turned back into pulp. In 2014, he won the Pritzker Architecture Prize. This is the top award for architects. People call him an inspiration for his kind work.
