Renzo Piano is a famous architect. An architect is a person who designs buildings. He was born in Genoa, Italy. His family of builders helped him learn.

Piano makes many kinds of structures. Some look like machines. The Centre Pompidou in Paris is very special. It has bright pipes on the outside. The pipes carry water and heat. This design turned the art world upside down.

Other buildings are very calm. The Menil Collection in Texas uses many windows. It lets in lots of natural light. Piano also designs things that look like animals. He made ships that look like dolphins. He also made a mall called "The Whale."

He uses many materials like wood, steel, and glass. In Japan, he built Kansai International Airport. It sits on an island. The building has special joints. These joints help it stay safe during earthquakes. He also built a center in New Caledonia. It uses wood to show local culture. Piano's work is found all over the world.
