Shaoguan

geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Shaoguan is a city in South China. It is in the northern part of Guangdong Province. The city sits near the Nan Mountains. These mountains run from east to west.

Two rivers meet in the city. The Wu River and the Zhen River join together. They make the North River. This river flows south to Guangzhou. The downtown part of the city sits on a piece of land between these rivers. This land is called a peninsula. A dam keeps the water at a steady level.

Shaoguan has many different types of weather. The summers are long, hot, and wet. The winters are mild but cool. Because the city is far from the sea, winters can feel colder. Spring is the wettest time of year. The sun shines less during this season.

There are many things to see. You can visit Danxia Mountain in Renhua County. People also go to Pingshi for white-water rafting. This is a fast way to ride on a river. The city also has the Fengcai Tower. This tower was built a long time ago during the Ming dynasty.
