Shakira's journey into art began when she was a very small child. She wrote her first poem when she was only four years old. When she was six, she wrote her first song on a typewriter. This song was called "Gafas Oscuras," which means "Dark Glasses." She was inspired by her father, who wore dark glasses to hide his sadness.

Later, she discovered belly dancing at a Middle Eastern restaurant. She practiced this dance at her school every Friday morning.

Her professional career started much earlier than most people's. She made her first recording at only 14 years old. Her first album, Magia, was released in 1991 in Colombia. At first, her music was not a huge commercial success. She later won third place at a song festival in Chile in 1993. By age 15, she had already graduated from her secondary school. She spent much of her youth focused on her big musical goals.

Shakira became a global star with her later albums. Her album Pies Descalzos was released in 1995 and sold over 5 million copies.
