Shahriar is a busy city in Iran. It sits within the Tehran province. This city is the capital of its own area. This area is called Shahriar County. It is also the capital of the Central District. Many people visit or live in this part of the country.

Getting around the city is quite simple. The local government runs a bus service. This group is called the Shahriar Municipality and Suburbs Bus Organization. These buses connect Shahriar to the large city of Tehran. They also travel to a place called Karaj. The buses visit many small towns nearby too. This helps people move between different places easily.

The city has changed a lot over time. The local government was first set up in 1953. At that time, the city was much smaller. Only 5,000 people lived there in 1953. A very sad event happened near the city later on. On January 8, 2020, a plane was shot down. This was Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752. All 176 people on that flight died.

Many people call Shahriar their home. The number of people living there grows often. In the 2006 census, there were 189,120 people. These people lived in 24,039 different households. By 2011, the count rose to 249,473 people. Those people lived in 75,014 households. In 2016, the population reached 309,607 people. They lived in 97,570 households then.

Shahriar is a key part of its region. It links many smaller towns together. The city acts as a main hub for the county. You can find it near other major places like Tehran. It is a place where many families live together. The city keeps growing as more people move in. It remains an important center in Tehran province.
