Seymour Cray was a famous engineer.

He designed the fastest computers in the world. Many people call him the "father of supercomputing." This is because he helped start the whole industry.

Cray loved to build things. When he was ten, he built a device from a toy set. Later, he studied math and electrical engineering. He worked on many big computer projects. He wanted to make machines that could work very fast.

He knew that speed was about more than just one part. He worked to make the whole system work well. His CDC 6600 was the first commercial supercomputer. It was much faster than other machines at that time.

Cray liked to work in a quiet place. He moved his lab to Chippewa Falls. He wanted to avoid too many meetings. He then started his own company, Cray Research. His Cray-1 computer was a huge success.
