At first, the Serbian army fought well. They and their allies from Montenegro won a big battle at Cer. This was a major win for the Allied side. But things changed in 1915. Germany, Bulgaria, and Austria-Hungary joined together. They attacked Serbia from three sides. This led to a hard time for the Serbian people. Many had to leave their homes to find safety.

Serbia was later divided between other lands. But in 1918, the tide turned. Allied forces broke through the front lines. Serbian and French troops moved in to help. They liberated the land and entered Belgrade on November 1, 1918.
