She had the body of a woman and a lion's head. She was the daughter of the sun god, Ra. Many people saw her as a warrior. They also thought she was a goddess of medicine.

Some stories say Sekhmet was very fierce. One myth says she was sent to punish people. She became so angry that she almost destroyed all of humanity. To stop her, the gods used a clever plan. They dyed a lake of beer with red color. Sekhmet thought the beer was blood.

She drank the beer and became very drunk. This made her calm and saved the world.

People held big festivals to honor her. They played music and danced to soothe her. Some believe she could cause sickness. But people also asked her to heal the sick. You can find many statues of her in museums today. She was a very important part of Egyptian life.
