Second-wave feminism was a big movement for women. It began in the early 1960s. It lasted for about twenty years. Women wanted more than just legal rights. They wanted real equality in daily life. This included work, family, and safety.

In the 1950s, many women stayed home. TV shows often showed a perfect life at home. But many women felt sad or stuck. A writer named Betty Friedan wrote about this.

Her book was very famous. It helped start the movement in the United States.

Leaders also worked to help. President John F. Kennedy started a special group.

This group included Eleanor Roosevelt. They wanted better schools and child care for women.

Many new laws helped women. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was one.

Women also gained rights in court. They fought for fair divorce laws and safety from harm. These changes helped shape our world today.
