In the late 1700s and early 1800s, America saw a big religious change. This time is called the Second Great Awakening. Many people joined new churches during these years. This movement started in places like Kentucky and Tennessee. It spread to many other states and even Canada.

One way people shared their faith was through camp meetings. These were large outdoor meetings that lasted for several days. People would camp out together to worship. They often sang, shouted, and danced with joy.

These meetings helped people in far-away areas feel part of a group.

Some preachers were called circuit riders. These were ministers who traveled to many different places. They went to remote areas on the frontier to find families. This helped the Methodist Church grow very fast. Many women and young people were the first to join these new groups.

This time also led to new ideas. Some people believed they should work to make society better. This period helped start many well-known colleges and mission groups. It even led to the birth of new religious groups like the Seventh-day Adventists.
