He is widely recognized for his influential roles in both cable news and talk radio. Hannity hosts a nationally syndicated radio program called The Sean Hannity Show. He also hosts a political commentary program on Fox News, which began in 2009. His work is defined by a strong conservative ideology. He uses his platforms to discuss current events and political figures. This makes him a central figure in modern American political media.

His career began with manual labor and volunteer work. In 1982, Hannity started a house-painting business. A few years later, he worked as a building contractor in Santa Barbara, California. In 1989, he volunteered as a talk show host at UC Santa Barbara. He hosted 40 hours of air time at the station KCSB-FM.

Hannity later admitted he was not very good at it initially. His college show was eventually canceled due to a controversy regarding discussions on gay and lesbian rights. After the station refused to apologize, he left and moved to radio in Alabama and Atlanta. This path eventually led him to major markets like New York City.

In 1996, Hannity joined Fox News after being hired by co-founder Roger Ailes. He co-hosted a program called Hannity & Colmes with Alan Colmes. This show used a "point-counterpoint" format to debate political issues. Hannity provided the conservative perspective while Colmes offered a liberal viewpoint.

When Colmes announced his departure in January 2008, the show changed. Hannity merged the program into his own self-titled show, Hannity, in 2009. This transition allowed him to focus entirely on his own political commentary.

Hannity's radio success has been massive in scale. His radio program began national syndication on September 10, 2001. It was broadcast on more than five hundred stations across the country. In 2004, he signed a five-year contract with ABC Radio worth $25 million. By 2008, he signed another five-year contract worth $100 million. As of March 2018, his program reached more than 13.5 million listeners every week.

His influence is also reflected in his writing. He has authored four New York Times best-selling books on topics like liberty and conservatism.

His professional achievements have earned him several prestigious honors. He received Marconi Radio Awards from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2003 and 2007. In November 2017, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. These awards recognize his significant impact on the radio industry. He has also been ranked highly in industry publications. For example, Talkers Magazine ranked him No. 2 in its 2017 Heavy Hundred list. He also appeared on the Forbes "Celebrity 100" list in 2013.

Hannity is also well known for his relationship with Donald Trump. He has provided extensive pro-Trump coverage throughout Trump's political career.

He has defended Trump against various criticisms and controversies. Some critics have argued that he gives Trump more airtime than other candidates. In 2016, tension arose during an interview with Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz suggested that Hannity was a "hardcore" supporter of Trump. Hannity responded by saying he was not hiding his desire for Trump to be president. He does not claim to be a traditional journalist. Instead, he identifies as an "advocacy journalist" or an "opinion journalist."

Beyond broadcasting, Hannity has engaged in other business and media activities. He hosted "Freedom Concerts" from 2003 to 2010 to raise money for charity. These events featured country music and supported the Freedom Alliance. However, the concerts faced scrutiny regarding how much money reached the target charity.

He has also made cameo appearances in films and television shows. He has appeared in works like *Atlas Shrugged: Part II* and *House of Cards*. Additionally, he has significant holdings in residential real estate. As of April 2018, he owned at least 877 properties worth nearly $89 million. These properties are often located in working-class neighborhoods.
