There are many kinds of conventions. Some are small and held for local friends. Others are huge and focus on one thing, like Star Wars. Some focus on many parts of pop culture.

One very important event is called Worldcon. It is the annual World Science Fiction Convention. It has happened almost every year since 1939. People who join Worldcon can vote on two things. They vote on which city will host the next meet. They also vote for the Hugo Award winners. These are special awards for great science fiction work.

Worldcon is not run by one main group. Instead, a local team organizes it each year. This team must follow specific rules. This way, the convention moves to a new city every time. It is a great way for fans and writers to meet in person.
