One special place is Castle Island. A grand palace sits there. It has a bright gold dome. Long ago, dukes lived in this palace. Now, it is where the state parliament meets. The city is very old. It was first named in the year 1018. Most of the old buildings are still standing today. This is because they were not hit hard by bombs in World War II. About 96,000 people live in Schwerin. It is the smallest state capital in all of Germany. You can see tall towers from many old churches. The city is a lovely place to visit and see.
