Scholastics were often called "schoolmen." They used logic to study many things. Their main goal was to link new ideas with old ones. They wanted to match the ideas of Aristotle with Christian faith.

In classrooms, students used a way called disputation. They would pick a topic to debate. One person would give an answer. Then another person would argue against it. This helped them find the truth through deep thought.

Many thinkers were part of this movement. Anselm of Canterbury was a very early leader. Thomas Aquinas was also famous. He wrote a big book called Summa Theologica.

These schools helped start the first universities. They grew in places like Italy, France, and England. This way of thinking helped modern science and philosophy grow later on. It changed how people study the world.
