People can get sick by touching this water. The worms can go through the skin. This might cause an itchy red rash. Some people call this swimmer's itch.

Once inside, the worms move through the body. They can live in the belly or the bladder. This can cause tummy pain or blood in the urine. If the sickness lasts a long time, it can hurt the liver. It can also hurt the kidneys. In children, it might make it hard to grow well.

Doctors can find the disease by looking for eggs. They look in a person's urine or stool. There is a medicine called praziquantel. It helps kill the adult worms. To stay safe, people need clean water. We can also help by reducing the number of snails in the water. This disease is common in parts of Africa, Asia, and South America.
