Many lived in what is now northern Germany. Their name might come from a knife called a seax.

In the early days, the name Saxon was used for raiders. These people used boats to attack the Roman Empire. They came from lands near the sea. Some moved to places like England and France. In England, they became part of a new group called the Anglo-Saxons.

Later, the Saxons in Germany had many wars. A leader named Charlemagne fought them for many years. This was called the Saxon Wars. He won and made them part of his land. He also made them follow Christianity.

After this, Saxony became a single duchy. This was a large area ruled by one group.

Today, the Saxons are not a single group of people. But their name is still used. You can find it in names of places in Germany. One place is called Lower Saxony.
