He was an Egyptian actor and film producer who maintained a prolific career for 37 years. During this time, he appeared in over one hundred feature films. He was highly regarded for his charisma and his realistic acting style. Zulfikar moved easily between many different genres of film. He also made significant contributions to television, theater, and radio. His influence extended across the entire Arab world during the 20th century.

Before entering the arts, Zulfikar served as a dedicated police officer.

He graduated from the Egyptian Police Academy in 1946. He was a skilled athlete and won the King's Cup in featherweight boxing in 1947. Zulfikar also taught at the Police Academy, where he managed a unit for new students. He viewed this unit as a "manhood factory" for developing character. His military service was marked by significant bravery during several conflicts. He participated in the guerrilla war in Ismailia in 1944.

Zulfikar's transition to acting was a gradual process. In 1955, he began working as a part-time actor. Because he was still a police officer, he required temporary permits from the Ministry of Interior. His first film was the 1956 release, *Wakeful Eyes*. He eventually became a full-time actor in late 1957. His early roles included the film *Return My Heart* in 1957. This film was a regional success and told the story of the 1952 Egyptian revolution. He quickly became a "bankable star," meaning his presence in a film guaranteed commercial success.

Throughout the 1960s, Zulfikar's stardom reached its peak. He worked with legendary directors such as Hassan El-Emam and Youssef Chahine.

Under El-Emam, he starred in a series of films in 1960, including the thriller *Inni Attahim*. He also gained fame for light romantic comedies. These included *A Date at the Tower* in 1962 and *Soft Hands* in 1963.

In 1963, he played Issa El Awam in the film *Saladin the Victorious*. This role earned him a state award for best actor in a leading role. His performance was even featured at the 14th Berlin International Film Festival in 1964.

Zulfikar was known for his ability to portray a wide variety of characters. At the height of his career, he often played a new kind of hero. He embodied a champion of the common man in films like *A Scrap of Bread*.

He also explored more complex and darker roles later in his career. In the 1982 thriller *The Peacock*, he played an enigmatic character. This role pushed the limits of his acting abilities. While he was not a villain, he did play antagonistic characters in films such as *The Guilty* in 1975. This range allowed him to remain relevant to audiences for decades.

In addition to acting, Zulfikar was a successful businessman in the film industry. He established his first production company in 1958 with his brother, Ezz El-Dine Zulficar. Later, in 1962, he founded the Salah Zulfikar Films Company. He operated this company in Egypt and the Arab world for nearly 16 years. Most of the films he produced became box-office successes. His work as a producer earned him numerous awards. This dual role as both talent and executive helped shape the Egyptian film industry.

Zulfikar's legacy is preserved through the lasting impact of his work. In 1996, during the centenary of Egyptian cinema, his films were recognized as some of the best ever made. Ten of his films as an actor were listed among the top one hundred Egyptian films of the 20th century. Five of his films as a producer were also included on this prestigious list.
