A man named Khon Konchog Gyalpo built the first home for this group. He built it a long time ago in 1073.

Many smart teachers helped the group grow. One famous teacher was named Drogmi. He studied in India for twelve years. He helped people learn new ways to talk and think.

Leaders of the group come from the Khon family. The leaders are passed down from fathers to sons. This keeps the group's history alive.

Some leaders also helped rule Tibet. A leader named Phagpa worked with the Yuan dynasty. This lasted for many years.

Today, the Sakya group is still very important. People follow these old ways to find peace. It is a grand tradition to study.
