Sámi people have many ways to live. Some people fish in the sea. Others herd sheep or trap fur. The most famous way is reindeer herding.

Reindeer are very important. They give meat and warm fur. They also help people travel. In some areas, only Sámi people can herd reindeer by law.

Sámi people speak their own languages. These belong to the Uralic language family. In the past, some leaders tried to stop Sámi culture. They made people use other languages in schools. This was a hard time for the Sámi.

Today, the Sámi keep their culture strong. They have their own parliaments to help them. They also have their own radio and TV stations. These groups help them share their stories and ways of life. They use the name Sámi to show pride in who they are.
