Rudolf Clausius was a famous German scientist. He was a master of physics and math.

He is known as a founding father of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is the science that studies heat and energy. His work helped people understand how heat moves and changes. This science is important for understanding how the world works. He changed how we think about energy and motion.

Clausius found a way to explain how heat works. In 1850, he wrote a famous paper about the moving force of heat. He noticed a problem with older ideas about heat and energy. He used math to fix these ideas. He wrote down the two laws of thermodynamics. These laws explain how heat moves from one place to another.

He also studied how tiny gas particles move. He showed they move by spinning and vibrating.

Clausius had a very busy life of learning. He was born in 1822 in Köslin.

He studied math and physics at the University of Berlin. He graduated from the University of Halle in 1848. His studies were about how light moves in the sky. He also taught at many places. He taught at the ETH Zürich in Switzerland. Later, he taught at schools in Würzburg and Bonn.

He made many big discoveries during his life. In 1865, he created the idea of entropy. Entropy is a way to measure how things transform or change. He chose this name from a Greek word.

He also created the virial theorem for heat in 1870. During the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, he helped organize an ambulance corps. He was wounded in battle and won the Iron Cross. He received many honors, like the Copley Medal in 1879.

Many things today link back to his work. His ideas about light help explain why the sky is blue. We use his rules of heat to build engines and machines. Even the moon has a crater named Clausius to honor him.

His name is still used for a unit of entropy. A memorial stone in his home town of Koszalin stands today. His big ideas still help scientists study the world.
