Keane's career was full of many big steps. He started at a small club called Cobh Ramblers in Ireland. In 1990, he moved to England to play for Nottingham Forest. He worked very hard to become a regular starter there. Later, he joined Manchester United for a record fee of £3.75 million. He played for United for many years and became their captain in 1997. Finally, he played for Celtic before he retired from playing in 2006.

His journey began in a working-class area of Cork. His father, Maurice, worked at a local brewery and a knitwear company. The Keane family loved sports, especially soccer. As a young boy, Roy even practiced boxing for several years. He won all four of his matches in a novice league. Even when he was small, he was a very promising player. Keane won a huge number of trophies during his life. He won 19 major trophies in his club career. At Manchester United, he won seven Premier League titles. After he stopped playing, Keane found new ways to stay in soccer. He became a manager for teams like Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
