It is likely the oldest film still in existence. A French inventor named Louis Le Prince made it. He filmed it on October 14, 1888. The scene was shot in a garden in Leeds, England.

This garden was at a home called Oakwood Grange. The film shows people walking and moving in the garden. We see Adolphe Le Prince and his family. We also see Joseph and Sarah Whitley. Sarah Whitley turns and seems to dance backward. Joseph Whitley turns and his coat tails fly in the air. Annie Hartley also walks in the garden.

Le Prince used a single-lens camera to make the film. He used special Kodak paper for the film. The film moves at a slow speed. Some say it shows 7 frames every second. The original film is lost now. In the 1930s, experts made copies of some frames. They used glass plates to save the images. These frames help us see this piece of history today.
