People also used radios to hear music. This helped create a shared culture.

Movies also became a huge part of life. At first, films had no sound. Then, "talkies" arrived. These were movies with spoken words.

A famous film called The Jazz Singer helped make this happen. Even Walt Disney made a sound cartoon called Steamboat Willie.

Society changed in other ways, too. Many women won the right to vote. Art and buildings used new, sleek styles called Art Deco.
