Rizhao

geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Rizhao is a city in China. It sits in the Shandong province. The city is by the Yellow Sea. Its name means "sunshine." This is because it is on the coast. The sun reaches the city early.

Many people live in Rizhao. About 2.9 million people live there. The city has a very large seaport. Ships use the port to move things. They carry coal and iron ore. They also move cement and nickel. A large airport also serves the city.

Rizhao is a green city. It works hard to help the Earth. Since 1992, new buildings must use solar water heaters. These tools use the sun to make hot water. By 2007, almost every home used them. The United Nations said it is a great place to live.

The weather has four seasons. Summer is hot and wet. Winter is cool and windy. Because it is near the sea, spring arrives a month late. Fall is milder than other places nearby. The city gets a lot of bright sunshine each year.
