A religious denomination is a group within a religion. These groups share a name and a way of life.

In Christianity, groups are often called denominations. They might have different leaders or rules. They may also follow different ways to read holy books. The Catholic Church is the largest Christian group. Other groups include Lutheranism and branches of Protestantism.

Islam also has different groups. Sunni is the largest group in the world. About 90% of Muslims are Sunni. About 10% are Shia. There are also other groups like Ibadi. Some people identify as non-denominational Muslims.

In Judaism, there are different movements. These include Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative groups. These groups may use different languages in prayer. Some use Hebrew for their services.

Hinduism has major groups too. These groups often focus on a main god. Some examples are Shaivism and Vaishnavism.

Sometimes, many different groups meet for one event. This is called multi-denominational. It helps everyone feel included. Chaplains often help people from many faiths. They work in places like the military.
