Rómulo Betancourt was a very important leader from Venezuela.

Many people call him the "Father of Venezuelan Democracy." He was born in a town named Guatire near Caracas. His parents were Luis Betancourt Bello and Virginia Bello Milano. During his first time as president, he helped start universal suffrage. This meant more people had the right to vote. He also helped many refugees from Europe find new homes. One big goal was to help the country earn more from oil. He used a rule called "Fifty to Fifty." This rule meant the government and oil companies shared the profits equally. He also helped workers by supporting many new labor unions.

His political journey had many ups and downs.
