Quince

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

A quince is a fruit. It grows on a small tree or bush. The fruit is bright yellow. It looks a lot like a pear.

These fruits smell very good. Most are too hard to eat raw. They are very sour, too. People cook them with sugar. This makes sweet jam or jelly.

In the spring, the tree has pretty flowers. They can be white or pink. Some people grow them in small pots. This is called a bonsai plant.

Quince trees like the sun. They also need a cold time each year. This helps the flowers grow. The fruit grows in the fall. It is ready before the frost.
