geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Quetta is a large city in Pakistan. It is the capital of Balochistan.

The city sits in a valley. High mountains surround it on all sides. Because it is so high, it is a major city at a high altitude.

Many people call Quetta the "Fruit Garden of Pakistan." This is because many fruit orchards grow there. You can find many types of fresh and dried fruit. The city is a busy place for trade. It sits near the border of Afghanistan.

This helps people move goods between the two countries.

Quetta has a cold climate. The summers are warm, but the winters are cold. Sometimes, the city gets snow in the winter. In 1935, a large earthquake hit the area. It destroyed much of the city. People had to rebuild it. Today, over 1.5 million people live there.
