It is one of 88 modern constellations.

The three brightest stars in Pyxis form a rough line. Alpha Pyxidis is the brightest star in the group. It is a blue-white star. It is 22,000 times brighter than our Sun.

One star called T Pyxidis is very special. It is a recurrent nova. This means it flares up and gets bright every few decades. This happens as a small star pulls material from a neighbor.

Pyxis also has planets. Scientists found three star systems with planets. One is a hot Jupiter. This is a large planet that orbits very close to its star. We also find a globular cluster there. This is a big group of old stars. It sits very far away in space.
