This article covers sensitive topics: politics. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

Public law is a set of rules for society. It governs how people and the government act together. It also covers how different parts of a state work.

Laws are often split into two groups. Public law is one group. Private law is the other group. Private law covers rules for people and their own interests. Public law covers things like religious offices and the state.

A man named Ulpian first noted this split. He was a legal expert in ancient Rome. Later, people used these ideas in many different countries.

Public law includes several important areas. Constitutional law sets the base for a state. It explains how leaders are chosen. It also protects human rights.

Administrative law manages how government agencies work. It handles things like taxes and trade. Criminal law is another part. It deals with crimes and keeps people safe.

Tax law is also part of public law. In the past, people saw taxes as gifts. Now, we see them as a link between people and the state. Public law helps ensure the government obeys the law too.
