Project Gemini was a special set of steps for space travel.

It happened between 1961 and 1966. This program helped the United States get ready for the Apollo missions. The goal was to land people on the Moon.

Gemini ships could carry two people. This was a big change from the first ships. The crew practiced how to stay in space for a long time. They needed to stay up for almost 14 days. They also practiced extravehicular activity, or EVA. This is a way to walk outside the ship.

Astronauts also learned how to dock. This means joining two ships together in space. They used a computer to help them steer. The ship also had a special way to leave if things went wrong. It used ejection seats to push the crew away from the rocket. Sadly, three astronauts died in plane crashes during their training. But the work was a success. It taught us how to travel far into space.
