A man named John Knox was a key leader. He studied with John Calvin in Geneva. Knox helped set up the church in Scotland.

This group is known for how it is run. They do not have just one top leader. Instead, they use groups of elders called presbyters.

These elders make choices for the church. Local groups are led by a session. These sessions work with larger groups. These groups are called presbyteries and synods. A big group called a General Assembly is the highest level.

Presbyterians value the Bible very much. They also believe in lifelong learning. They use special books to explain their beliefs. One famous set of books is the Westminster Standards. Today, about 75 million people follow this tradition. It is found in many places like the United States and Canada.
