Pragmatics

language culture Maturity 13-18 Next article →

We use words to talk to others. Sometimes we mean more than we say. This is called pragmatics. It is the study of how we use language.

Words change based on where we are. They also change based on who we talk to. A person might use different words with a friend. They might use different words with a teacher.

We also use our bodies to talk. We use our eyes and our hands. This helps people understand us better.

Sometimes, we do not say everything out loud. We let people guess our meaning. This helps us work together well.

Learning these ways to talk is a great skill. It helps us connect with the world.
