Paul Grice was a man who studied words. He lived in England and the United States. He was a philosopher. This means he thought about big ideas.

He studied how we share ideas. He thought about how people use words. He looked at what people mean when they speak. He wanted to know how we understand each other.

Grice found that people work together when they talk. He called this the cooperative principle. It helps us follow a path to understand. This makes talking much easier.

He also studied how words have meaning. Some meanings are just in the words. Other meanings come from what a person wants. He found that we use both types.

His ideas are still very important today. They help us learn about how we talk. Many people study his work now.
