People built Port Said in 1859. They started it to build the Suez Canal. At first, there were no local resources. Workers had to bring in wood, stone, and food. They even had to import fresh water. The city grew very fast. It became a place where many different people lived together. Today, it is a major place for trade. Ships stop there to get fuel. It is also a place where people go to visit the beach.
