People call him Leo the Great. He was the Bishop of Rome for many years. He lived from the year 391 to 461.

Leo is famous for meeting a leader named Attila. Attila was the leader of the Huns. He was invading Italy at that time. Some say Leo talked to him to stop the war. Others think Attila was already ready to leave.

Leo also helped people in Rome. The city had many hungry people. There were many refugees and people in poverty. Leo led work to help them. He also taught people to give to the poor.

He was a great thinker. He wrote many letters and sermons. One very important paper was the Tome of Leo.

This paper helped a big meeting called the Council of Chalcedon. At this meeting, leaders talked about Jesus. They decided that Jesus had two natures. He was both divine and human.

Leo's ideas helped shape how many people see faith today.
