She was a nun at a convent. She taught herself how to paint. Most women then made small art. Plautilla made very large works. This was not common for women in her time.

She learned by copying other artists. She studied the work of Fra Bartolomeo. Her art shows deep feelings. In one painting, her figures have red eyes and tears. This shows their sadness.

One of her most famous works is The Last Supper. It is a huge oil painting on canvas. It is seven meters long! This is the only work she signed. She signed it with a special note. She wrote, "Pray for the Paintress." This showed her pride in her work.

Many of her paintings are in museums today. Experts have worked to clean and fix them. These new studies help us learn more about her life. She was a brave artist who made her own way.
