Our Earth has natural limits. Scientists call these the planetary boundaries. These limits help keep our world stable.

For a long time, the Earth was very stable. This time was called the Holocene. During this time, human life could grow and thrive. But human actions now change the Earth. These changes happen mostly because of big industries.

There are nine boundaries in total. These include things like climate change and how we use land. Some boundaries are already crossed. This means we have moved past the safe zone.

Scientists say we have crossed several limits. These include climate change. We have also crossed the limit for biosphere integrity. This means the way nature works is changing. We have also crossed the limit for land system change. This is when we change how land is used.

More limits have been crossed lately. In 2022, we crossed the limit for novel entities. These are new materials made by humans. In 2023, we crossed the limit for freshwater change. In 2025, scientists found we crossed the ocean acidification limit. This is when the ocean becomes more acidic.
